Pastor Bob Barton has been serving at Heritage Baptist Church since January, 2002.  As Heritage’s founding pastor, he was instrumental in articulating our theology and doctrine, as well as our intergenerational ministry philosophy and vision. Pastor Barton received Christ as his Savior in 1979, at the age of 16.  He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and spent 7 years as a Tactical Intelligence Officer in the US Army. Pastor Barton has served in discipleship ministry since 1984, and in pastoral ministry for the past 15 years.  He has been involved in helping other churches and ministries develop and grow, teaching in personal evangelism, ministering in ten different countries cross-culturally, as well as teaching and preaching in Bible training centers here and abroad.  Bob and his wife, Pam, have been married for over 20 years.  After he faced cancer, and was told he may never have children, God saw fit to bless he and Pam with one son, Billy, who now serves with his parents at Heritage as Minister of Music.

Of his own heart for the ministry, Pastor Barton says, “After being converted, I fell in love with the Bible. Being one who loved to teach already, I hungered to read it, study it and then teach it, or share with others what the Lord had given me. The thrill and the power of God’s Magnificent Word combined with His remarkable plan of discipleship for the world became increasingly intoxicating. I began my ministry as a young man holding in-home Bible studies and building relationships with others as I endeavored to invest my life in theirs. This extended to teaching Sunday School Classes, serving as a church deacon and then filling the pulpit for my pastor as a preacher.

Some time later, I was exposed to revival history and more teaching on the crucified life. This was used by the Lord to draw my heart toward a life of full-time vocational ministry. At the same time, I was growing in my understanding of church history and God’s view of, and will fo the church (His Bride). This was the catalyst for my calling to pastoral ministry and the shepherding of Christ’s flock.

Thus, our Lord has burdened my heart for the authentic, abundant, spirit-filled Christian life marked by a personal, intimate and passionate love for, and relationship with, Jesus Christ which gives birth to a revived local assembly longing to depart from modern mediocrity and to pursue a life of abiding in Jesus, magnifying Him and impacting the world for His glory.

This is my heartbeat … this is my calling.”

Your servant for Christ’s glory,
Bob Barton
